Why week one lies

New subscriptions almost always perform well. Providers keep spare capacity for new sign-ups, and a fresh account rarely lands on an oversubscribed server.

Problems appear once the provider sells more slots than its servers comfortably carry. That is a matter of weeks, not days, which is why a snap review of a free trial tells you very little.

What actually goes wrong

The common failures are dull rather than dramatic: a channel quietly leaves the list, an app update breaks playback on one device, or the picture holds everywhere except the one match you wanted.

None of these show up in a specification sheet. They only appear in a log kept over time, which is the entire reason this site tests the way it does.

Judging a provider yourself

Take any trial on offer and use it at the worst moment: a weekend evening with the household online. Capacity problems surface under load and nowhere else.

Then pay monthly and keep watching for a few weeks before committing to a longer term. If a service is going to fall over, it will usually have done so by then.

Common questions

Why test for 90 days?

Because almost every IPTV service works well in week one. Overselling, capacity problems and quiet channel removals show up weeks later, which is precisely when most reviews have already been published and forgotten.

Is IPTV legal in the UK?

Paying a provider that holds the rights to what it streams is lawful. Services reselling channels they have no licence for are not, and the risk sits with the viewer. We only list providers presenting themselves as licensed, but we cannot audit their contracts.

What counts as a fault in your log?

Anything we can timestamp: how quickly a stream starts, how the picture behaves on sustained playback, when a line-up is updated, and how long support takes to reply. The point is a record made at the time rather than an impression recalled later.

What broadband speed do I need?

Roughly 15 Mbps for each HD stream and 25 Mbps for 4K. Count simultaneous streams rather than people, since one household can easily run three at once on a weekend evening.

Do you re-test services?

Yes. Every service on this page is re-tested each quarter, and rankings move as line-ups and pricing move. A service that suited you last year may not be the best fit for what you watch now.

Should I buy a long plan straight away?

No. Pay monthly until a service has proven itself for a few weeks. The annual saving is meaningless if the provider is unusable by month three, and refunds on long plans are rarely straightforward.
